Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Then, she became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, budget tax reforms as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled together with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to summits and debate topics like that of the Iran Contra scandal.
